　　专业1：Master of Arts in the field of English Studies 英语研究

　　The Master of Arts in the field of English Studies (MA) offers candidates with a good grounding in English Studies the opportunity to participate in an innovative programme that explores latest developments in literary, cultural and linguistic theory. The curriculum has a cross-cultural focus designed to take advantage of Hong Kong's historical, geographical and political position. Each course considers different theories, languages and literatures of cross-cultural exchange, especially with respect to East-West and post-colonial thinking. The programme includes courses in Cross-cultural Theory, Cultural Semiotics, Travel Writing, World Modernism, The Politics of English, Global Fictions and an Introduction to Language and Communication.

　　The main prerequisite for this programme is a solid background at BA level in writing critical essays on language and literature. Much of the theory will be new and the programme will begin at the beginning and assume no prior knowledge of it. However, reading in some of the theories used in the programme, such as theories of language and communication, semiotic theories, Orientalism, post-colonial theory, theories of globalisation and cross-cultural theory, is recommended as preparation.

　　In addition to regular classes, candidates will be required to complete a capstone course in their final semester that will culminate in a final creative project to be presented at a conference to the academic and wider community.

　　专业2：Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics 应用语言学 1996年开设的成熟专业

　　The M.A. in Applied Linguistics Programme, which has been offered by the Centre for Applied English Studies (formerly named the English Centre) since September 1996.

　　The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics is designed for people who are currently teaching, or who want to teach, English at tertiary level. The focus of the course is therefore on issues relating to the teaching, learning and use of English as a medium of tertiary academic and professional education. Some modules in the course contribute to an understanding of English in all contexts, while others relate more specifically to the learning context in Hong Kong. The course is offered on a part-time basis over two years and on a full-time basis over one year.

　　Current or former English teachers in public/private schools, or those with non-teaching professional experience in language and linguistics related areas, including corpus linguistics, translation, language learning technology, discourse analysis, media, or literature.

　　专业3：Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

　　Schools, universities, and other educational institutions in Asia are in need of skilled professional English language teachers with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) qualifications.

　　The programme is jointly offered by the Division of English Language Education in the Faculty of Education and the Centre for Applied English Studies in the Faculty of Arts, and has a strong team of highly experienced teachers and researchers from the discipline.

　　The MA(TESOL) curriculum aims to develop candidates’

　　understanding of key concepts, theories and research related to TESOL;

　　knowledge of a wide range of perspectives on the theory, policy and practice of TESOL;

　　capacity to analyse, synthesise and evaluate primary and secondary sources of research in TESOL and applied linguistics;

　　ability to investigate a specific field of study in depth and carry out an independent research project.

　　申请要求：English teachers in schools and other English education professionals with a strong interest or experience in TESOL

　　Fresh graduates/graduating students majoring in English language or a relevant field such as linguistics, English literature or English language education

　　雅思要求：6.5，单项不低于6
